Hello and I hope your Monday isn't hitting you too hard.

We had our first Purity Culture Dropout™ Divorce Support Groups yesterday and just like in 2024, the inaugural meetings were so good. Participants get to know each other by sharing about their religious backgrounds and the short stories of their marriages.

My favorite thing is watching the nodding and recognition from other participants' faces as they listen to each other's stories of growing up in high control religions, marrying young, and then realizing their happily ever after just might be something else entirely.

We had participants who are contemplating divorce, in the absolute thick of it (mediation! court!), people who finalized recently, and even people who have been divorced for a decade.

ICYMI: These groups are an opportunity to meet virtually with other people who are divorcing/separating and raised in purity culture, and have moderated support group discussions on a variety of topics! If you’re seeking community who understands both the post-purity culture and divorce/separation aspects of your experience, this is where you’ll find it.

Coming out of purity culture and religion can be a lonely experience because a lot of people “went to church” growing up, but most didn’t face the intensely controlling environment of evangelicalism that bends and warps who you are. Particularly if you have begun to wake up or question but remain in contact with family or friends who have not, these groups are for you. It’s intensely galvanizing to experience Erica’s empathetic wisdom in a group with the kind of allies you didn’t know existed."

It doesn’t matter if you're divorced / separated / divorcing / separating / or just feeling like you're headed that way. You decide how to interpret “divorce”- whether you’re just beginning to separate or have been divorced for years, you’re welcome in this group. ​

Note: The groups are open to anyone regardless of gender or sexual orientation. Queer folks (especially those newly discovering their queerness) are very welcome!

Each meeting is 90 minutes long. The total cost of the 8-sessions is $450 per person. (This breaks down to less than $40/hr).

A payment plan is available- if you can't pay the total cost when you sign up, you can pay in 3 installments.

The next Divorce Support Groups won't run again until the end of 2026, so don't miss your chance to be part of these current groups.
