Fellas is it gay? (2 days left to join Wednesday's Men's Group!)

Sometimes social media makes me think "We really don't need to hear all of each other's thoughts." I have this thought when I see posts made by men, urging other men to not accidentally appear gay.

Some of the things that might make you appear gay, according to Toxic Internet Masculinity:

  • eating salad
  • enjoying a fruity cocktail
  • being vegetarian
  • being nice to people
  • being really into your wife/ girlfriend
  • driving an electric vehicle

I wish I was making up that list, but every single thing on this list has been tweeted about by a guy who doesn't want to appear gay.

Similarly, some prominent Evangelical Christian men think that men are too feminine and weak, therefore weakening the church itself.

If this version of masculinity doesn't resonate with you, and you want to talk to other men about things like feelings, intimacy, sex, religion, gender, patriarchy, and how to be a good man in light of these limiting caricatures of masculinity - you still have some time to join one of my groups!

Purity Culture and Masculinity: A Group for Men is an 8 week support, discussion, and education group for men who want to examine masculinity and patriarchy, especially in light of the rise of Christian Nationalism.

Purity Culture and Masculinity: A Group for Men.

Shame-free discussions, open hearts, venting, space to process feelings of confusion, guilt, shame, fear, anger, grief, all of it. Bring it to me, guys. We're gonna talk about it. I'm a compassionate facilitator and I am here to support you.

Just a two more days to join Wednesday's group (begins on 5/6).

Six more days to join Thursday's group (begins on 5/7).

Nine more days to join Sunday's group (begins on 5/10).

Each group session is 90 minutes long.

Payment plans are available. If you look at the payment plan and need more flexibility than it offers- please email me and we'll work something out!

And in case you missed it last week:

the I've Had It Substack features an in depth interview with me- their first of a few! The Purity Culture to Fascism Pipeline was written by brilliant journalist Julia Sonenshein. I've Had It is a hugely popular podcast by Jennifer Welch and Angie Sullivan. The New Yorker describes Jennifer as "A left-wing, atheist reality-TV host from Oklahoma" and "one of the most popular liberal podcasters, channelling outrage with MAGA and with Democrats she views as complacent."

Thanks for your time everyone! Marketing/ selling my programs is my least favorite part of doing the work I love. I am not smooth and it and I'm not trying to be. I just want you to know what programs I have available.

You can reply directly to this email if you have any questions about these groups.

xo,

E

ps: Social media suppresses my reach, as is common with sex education content. If this group sounds important to you, please share it with anyone who may be interested- especially therapists who may want to refer clients. Thank you!!!

I developed the Purity Culture Dropout™️ Program to help people learn all of the sex education that they missed growing up in purity culture- sex ed that is accurate, queer inclusive, trauma informed, compassionate, and comprehensive. I have worked with hundreds of people to help them learn about healthy sexuality after high control religion. Subscribe if you're curious about / invested in shame free sexuality education that's specifically tailored to the needs of people coming out of high control religions and purity culture. Expect information not just about healthy sexuality and upcoming programming, but also cultural commentary on sexual politics in the US. I'm a sex educator with 25 years of experience and I'm excited to share that with you.

Hey newsletter friends! Don't forget this Sunday May 31 I'm hosting a virtual class called Yin Yoga for Purity Culture Survivors! You can read more about it if you scroll down a bit. ⬇️ If you're in the US, how was your Memorial Day weekend? Here in Philly it was rainy, cold, and generally gross- definitely not "down the shore" weather. If you had a day off, I hope you made the most of it! I wasn't technically off work all weekend (obviously my own choice lol). On Sunday I ran one of the...

A story: Last year in one of my Purity Culture Dropout™ Divorce Support Groups, I met an incredible woman named Shauna. She shared with us how she's healing her own religious trauma and relationship with her body through yin yoga- first as a student, and then as an instructor. I invited Shauna to lead our group through one of her classes, and it was just incredible. Shauna tailored her class to the experience of a religious trauma survivor, and it felt like a warm hug. I was struck by her...
